Thoughtful Care for Every Season of Women's Health.
At Middle Tennessee Acupuncture, we believe good healthcare begins with listening.
Our practice provides individualized acupuncture and functional health support for women navigating fertility and IVF, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, menstrual and hormonal concerns, and the many changes that can affect how you feel throughout different stages of life.
Because health rarely fits neatly into one box, we take the time to look at the bigger picture. Sleep, stress, digestion, nutrition, hormones, pain, and emotional well-being can all intersect—and understanding those connections can be an important part of understanding you.
Whether you're preparing for pregnancy, navigating fertility treatment, adjusting to life postpartum, struggling with hormonal changes, or simply trying to feel more like yourself again, you'll find care here that is thoughtful, personal, and never one-size-fits-all.
Your health is personal. Your care should be, too.

How We Can Help
Fertility & IVF Support
Trying to conceive can quickly become a world of appointments, testing, decisions, and waiting. Whether you're trying naturally or working with a fertility clinic through IUI or IVF, acupuncture can be incorporated into your care with your individual needs and treatment plan in mind.
Care may focus on menstrual cycle health, stress and sleep, treatment-related symptoms, and supporting your overall well-being throughout the fertility process.

Pregnancy & Postpartum Care
Pregnancy and the months after birth bring enormous physical and hormonal changes—and sometimes concerns that don't fit neatly into a standard prenatal or postpartum visit.
Acupuncture offers a gentle, individualized approach to supporting common pregnancy-related concerns and postpartum recovery, with care adapted to where you are in the process and how you're feeling.

Menstrual & Hormonal Health
Painful or difficult periods, changing cycles, PMS, perimenopausal changes, and the feeling that you simply aren't quite yourself can have a significant impact on everyday life.
We take the time to look at your symptoms in context, explore patterns, and consider the different factors that may be contributing to how you feel. Acupuncture and functional health support can then be incorporated based on your individual needs.

Functional Health & Lab Testing
Sometimes symptoms raise questions that deserve a closer look. When appropriate, functional health evaluation and laboratory testing can help us investigate factors such as thyroid function, hormones, nutritional status, metabolic health, and digestive health.
Testing isn't ordered simply for the sake of testing. The goal is to ask useful questions, choose testing that can help answer them, and use the results alongside your health history and symptoms to better understand the bigger picture.

Your First Visit
Your first appointment is about more than simply deciding where to place the needles. It's an opportunity for us to slow down, talk through your health history, and begin looking for the patterns and connections that may be important to your care.
What to Expect
New patient appointments are approximately 90 minutes and include both an in-depth consultation and your first acupuncture treatment.
We'll begin by talking through your health history, current concerns, symptoms, and what you'd most like help with. Depending on what brings you in, we may also discuss your menstrual cycle, fertility or pregnancy history, sleep, stress, digestion, nutrition, previous testing, medications or supplements, and other factors that may help us better understand the bigger picture.
From there, we'll discuss an initial plan for your care and answer any questions you may have before moving into your first acupuncture treatment.
There is no one-size-fits-all treatment schedule. Recommendations for follow-up care are based on your individual needs, goals, and what we're working on together.
Before Your Appointment
Your new patient forms will be completed through our online scheduling system before your first visit. Taking the time to complete them thoroughly gives us valuable information and allows us to spend more of your appointment focused on you rather than paperwork.
If you have recent laboratory results or other health information that you believe may be relevant, you're welcome to bring them with you or have them available for us to review.
Please plan to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment so we can begin on time.
Preparing for Your Treatment
A little preparation can make your first acupuncture treatment much more comfortable.
Wear comfortable clothing that can be easily moved or adjusted. Acupuncture points are located throughout the body, so we may need access beyond your arms and lower legs depending on your individual treatment. If you have long hair, please bring a hair tie so we can comfortably access points around your neck and shoulders if needed.
If clothing needs to be adjusted or removed to access a treatment area, draping is handled much like it would be during a massage: only the area being treated is exposed, while the rest of you remains comfortably covered. A table warmer and other comfort measures are also available to help you settle in and relax throughout your treatment.
Try to eat normally before your appointment rather than arriving very hungry or immediately after a large meal. You also don't need to drink a large amount of water just before you arrive. Acupuncture treatments are designed to give you time to relax, and that's considerably easier when you aren't lying on the table with an uncomfortably full stomach—or desperately waiting to use the restroom.
Most importantly, come as you are. Your first visit is designed to give us time to talk, ask questions, and begin figuring out the approach that makes the most sense for you.
Follow Up Visits
Most follow-up appointments take approximately an hour to complete. Dr. Timm will talk with you about how you’ve felt since your last appointment and decide what treatment(s) are most appropriate for that day.
New Patient Useful Info
Please dress comfortably in loose-fitting clothing that is easy to move or remove for proper placement of acupuncture needles, cups, etc. Gym shorts/leggings, and a t-shirt/tunic are good examples. If appropriate, please bring a hair tie as well. Feel free to have a snack immediately prior to your appointment, but please do not consume a large meal or drink a large amount of water-it can be very difficult to relax during treatment with an overly full stomach or full bladder.
**If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, Dr. Timm reserves the right to reschedule. **
